Grant Williams is an American professional basketball player who has represented the Boston Celtics (2019-2023) and the Dallas Mavericks (2023-Present) as a power forward/small forward, in the NBA (National Basketball Association – a professional basketball league in North America that is considered to be the world’s premier such league). He was selected 22nd overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1st round of the 2019 NBA Draft. After his high school graduation, Grant turned down offers from Harvard University (an Ivy League (a group of 8 private universities in the Northeastern United States that symbolize academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism) research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts) and Yale University (another Ivy League research university in New Haven, Connecticut) and committed to joining The University of Tennessee in November 2015.

During his time there (2016-17-2018-19), he was an ‘All-SEC (Southeastern Conference)’ player in his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. The Southeastern Conference is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the South Central and Southeastern United States. The conference, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, participates in Division I of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association – an organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 institutions in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico).

For his performances in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, Grant was named the ‘SEC Player of the Year’ – becoming the first player since 1995 to achieve this honor in successive years. He was also included in the ‘First-team All-SEC‘ in both 2018 and 2019. In the latter year, he was included in the ‘Consensus First-Team All-American’.

He was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Boston Red Sox (an American professional baseball team that competes in MLB (Major League Baseball – the oldest major professional sports league in the world)) game on August 7, 2019.
